Project Description

Lift Maintenance, Repairs and Modernisation

KING’S COLLEGE HOSPITAL

Since 2003, Liftec has been providing the lift maintenance and associated lift services at London’s King’s College Hospital, a 950-bed acute care hospital, serving a population of over 700,000 people. It is important that all lifts are fully functional and safe for passengers at all times.

The maintenance agreement with King’s College Hospital NHS Trust is to provide a service visit every month for each of the 67 lifts and a 24/7 emergency call out service.

A direct result of the level of attention and service our engineers were providing the annual lift breakdown rate across the hospital meant that it significantly reduced from previous levels. With this in mind, Liftec suggested that we lowered the annual visit scheduled from 12 to 10 visits per lift per annum for a period of six months.

We subsequently maintained a close watching brief to identify if any detrimental performance occurred and, as expected, it didn’t.

The result has been very beneficial for the Trust, as our suggested change in contract visits reduced the annual premium by around £8,000.00, something that, in today’s financial climate, was well received by our client.

One of the additional projects that Liftec has undertaken at King’s was to design, manufacture and install two new 2,000 kg capacity bed/patient lifts, which also provided floor-to-floor movement for hospital visitors and staff.
